Resist the Trump administration’s Anti-Immigrant Actions Resolution
Whereas, freedom of speech and peaceful assembly are fundamental rights guaranteed by the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution and the California Democratic Party preamble calls on us to “fight to defend and promote the rights, opportunities, and safety of all Californians and to speak out against injustice and hate for all marginalized communities;” and
Whereas, the Trump administration has activated ICE to arrest and deport immigrants, students, green card holders, and other vulnerable populations without clear evidence of crimes or violations of immigration laws and has unilaterally brought in National Guard and Marines to California and finally ejected and handcuffed a sitting US Senator—in a pattern of actions that threatens all of our fundamental rights, violates principles of due process, and undermines the trust and security of immigrant communities across Alameda County and throughout the nation, and, worse, are the brutal and arbitrary actions characteristic of a fascist government
Whereas, Alameda County is home to immigrants, with and without green cards, who attend school and university, work in jobs across the economic spectrum, have and express varied political opinions, and espouse beliefs of various kinds, religious or not, who all deserve to live in a secure society grounded in the rule of law and due process;
Therefore Be It Resolved, that the Tri-Valley Democratic Club supports freedom of speech and peaceful assembly as fundamental rights, condemns politically motivated deportations and detentions that lack a clear legal basis, infringe on constitutional rights, or intimidate residents from expressing political opinions, and calls on all residents of Alameda County to inform themselves of their rights and those of their neighbors and to resist any illegal action from agents of the Trump administration.
Be It Further Resolved, that we call upon and support our elected officials throughout Alameda County and beyond as they act to stop this inhumane treatment and fight for a return to the rule of law, and we thank those who are protecting our community members.
