In May 2021, the Alameda County Board of Supervisors unanimously passed a Care First, Jails Last Resolution for a paradigm shift from incarceration to a continuum of community-based prevention and care to minimize the number of people experiencing mental illness incarcerated in Santa Rita Jail. The grassroots campaign now advocates for the Supervisors to put real funding behind the Care First goals. John Lindsay-Poland will present an overview of the "Care First, Jails Last" policy. John serves as the co-director of the California Healing Justice program of the California Healing Justice program of the American Friends Service Committee. 2nd part of meeting will feature the reports from our subcommittees: Education, Democracy Reform, Environment, Health Care, and Immigration.
